GM Tries to Limit Current Hype Around Volt
The Detroit News is reporting that GM is trying to kill the electric car, or at least the hype around it, by taking steps to throw wet blankets on the current enthusiasm for the Chevrolet Volt. The moonshot Volt, which would rely on technologies that aren't even viable yet, has generated such intense enthusiasm that General Motors fears a backlash from consumers if the project gets axed. GM even went so far as inviting journalists to hear a presentation on the problems that putting the Volt into production would face, and to reiterate that it's just a concept. "[The Volt] is irrelevant until they get a battery pack invented," says Joseph Phillippi of AutoTrends Consulting in Short Hills, N.J.

This wouldn't be the first time that Detroit's promises of a greener tomorrow didn't pan out - DaimlerChrysler's fuel call car was stillborn, and Bill Ford's "Way Forward" got sideways when he announced that the company wouldn't be able to meet its 250,000-unit annual goal of hybrid production.

2007 NAIAS: Ford Interceptor Concept: Celebrating Modern American Muscle with 'Built Ford Tough' Attitude
Remember the Ford 427 concept? Great-looking design, large, rear-wheel drive sedan.... sounds like a no-brainer for an addition to the lagging Ford automobile range right? Wrong. At least the first time, because it never got built. Perhaps this time around, in the handsome guise of the Interceptor Concept, Ford will get the message that they need a car in this segment. They need change nothing as this car is GOR (wait for it) GEOUS! The cop-car inspired name is pretty cool and says F-it to the F name theme too. Works for us, though we'd also go for 'Gran Torino', just not in red with Starsky and Hutch C-pillar stripe.
